Smart data has led to the development of autonomous manufacturing. Most experts believe that the benefits of machine learning and predictive analytics in manufacturing is the improved efficiency and shortened turnaround times. However, there are other advantages of smart data that must be carefully incorporated into the manufacturing sector. Big data is also leading to the introduction of newer and more sophisticated industrial applications. One of the benefits is the evolution of multi-board systems. These can have a profound impact on the future of the manufacturing sector.

How Big Data is Changing the Future of Industrial Engineering

Louis Columbus, a contributor to Forbes, has said that machine learning is going to have a significant impact on the future of manufacturing. Columbus said that big data is helping with inventory optimization. It can increase service levels by 16% and improve output by 25%. He also talked about the opportunity to improve demand forecasts and streamline most processes. However, Columbus misses some of the biggest benefits of big data. Big data has enabled brands to develop more effective products, such as multi-board systems.

Why Does Big Data Help with the Design of Systems With Multiple Boards?

There are many different types of systems on the market. Some of them still fail to address the core needs of their manufacturing clients. This is one of the areas where big data has come in handy. Most electronic items on the market today will have multiple, interconnected printed circuit boards and the process of achieving this is not an easy one. To ensure a product is properly functioning, it is important to bring these boards together inside the enclosure and ensure that they are correctly connected to each other. This can be the most challenging part of any product development process. Just a few of the big questions you need to ask yourself include whether the nets have been assigned correctly on each connector, whether the connector are oriented right, checking to make sure that the plugs fit together and whether all of the connected boards fit in the enclosure. As you can see, there is a lot of challenges that a designer must overcome when designing systems that feature multiple boards. Not getting this right and making mistakes late in the product development process can have huge consequences and be an extremely costly mistake as the product will then have to be redesigned and this will also cause a delay in getting the item onto the market to start selling and generating profit. To manage this process efficiently and effectively, you need to have a design environment that will support this system-level design. This should be a design space in which you can outline the functional system, logical system and plug together various boards that you can verify connect correctly.

How to Capture the Logical System Design

There is plenty of amazing software that will help you to achieve a successful multi board PCB design and Altium is one of them. Within this software you can draw up a logical system design simply by placing modules on a multi-bard schematic. With this, every physical board in the system will be represented by a Module. Each of the modules will reference the PB process and with board in that project. Once each of these have been connected up on the design board, it will be able to verify this connectivity for you. If there are any issues with the wiring, this will be picked up and will flag up as an error for you to go back and fix.

Building the Physical Board

After you have created the logical system design, you will then need to look at creating the physical board assembly. With multi board PCB design, you will need to assemble these boards together and this will be placed inside a case or enclosure to keep it together and safe. Design software will help you to move easily through this process of design and it will support you in creating a multi board assembly. With the right editor, you can rotate separate boards, align them and even plug them in together. Furthermore, other parts such as assemblies and other boards can be imported and placed in the assembly.

Big Data is the Key to Better Multi-Board Systems

Big data is changing the future of system design. It has made it easier for manufacturers to design better systems with multiple boards. This should address many manufacturing systems in the years to come.
